Depressed finns
Dark and cold polar winters inspire Finnish musicians. Before performance in Almaty Pauli and Eero, members of the band, were asked with questions by our reporter.
Failed (abandoned) satellite
-The song “10 Black Roses” gives the name to all your album. Certainly, black roses means (symbolize) something?
Eero: 10 Black Roses – it is the story about relations between boy and girl. The idea of the song suggests to us our fans. Once, during the concert, somebody threw black roses to the stage. It was cool, therefore we decided to write the song about these flowers. In the song it is sung how one person feels alone and sad, and another sends him black roses. But the romantic relations is not the main idea, these roses are only sign of care, attention.
-When you, being schoolboys, have collected your band the first name of the band was Satellite.
Pauli: Nearly
- Say lies, whether that?
Pauli: No, don’t lie. But simply I’m not assured, that we have given at least one performance with such name
-Why you have chosen it?
Pauli: Because it is beautiful! (Laughing). It is connected with space.
Cold and dark
-If to take the most of popular Finnish bands – you, HIM, Nightwish and Apocalyptica – that all them become famous for rock and metal performance. Whence at Finns such thirst (bent) for heavy music?
Pauli: If you come to Finland, you will see that in winter time there is rather dark and cold and sometimes depressing. It cannot be said, that melancholy mood inherent only to modern bands. If to listen to old Finnish bands at their texts you can’t find it positive too. In these songs it is sung how a lot of sufferings are in our life and you cannot escape from them and it will become better only when you will die. Like these songs were listened my parents. As a matter as fact it is not surprising, that modern music in Finland inspires by these outside circumstances. If the sun shines during all year songs will be about other things.
-When I look at your smiling faces I cannot say that you are sorrowful (sad)
Pauli: I mean that in winter it is very sad atmosphere, which is spread with melancholy. Imagine when on street is cold and all day dark. And if someone decide to sing cheerful song, that the first reaction will be “Shut up!”. Simply therefore, you don’t feel yourself like this
Meditation every day
-In 90 s , when you began to play, in Europe rave-movement was actively developed. Have you felt any influence of it on yourselves?
Pauli: The influence of these styles on our music you can find only in beat. I like some crazy electronic tracks like that (represent techno beat)
Eero: But if you hear in our song straight beat it doesn’t mean that we write techno-song
-Do you have any business except music?
Eero: What the business more? Except The Rasmus I have my own band Hay and Stone. Also my big ardour – sakhadzha (I don’t know this kind of yoga so write in transliteration from Russian) yoga and meditation. I practice it everyday and think about spiritual things. Yoga takes considerable part of my life and become a big source of inspiration
Pauli: In free time I’m engage in wakeboarding, tennis and golf. But they are hobbies, not business.
