The Rasmus
Out of the
shadow
With “In
The Shadows” The Rasmus came into the international spotlight. Beside this
irresisteble hymn the finns still have their second ace in the sleeves:
frontman Lauri Ylönen, the heartthrob with the babyface.
Today there
are neither black feathers in his hair nor are his hairs blond, therefor Lauri
wears his his darkblonde hair on the right short and on the left long. Not bad
at all! The man, who steals uncountable girls their sleep, is dreaming of his
one year old son. “He is a super guy! Spending my time with him and my
girlfriend got more important for me than to sit with the other band guys in a
club.”
Also to
concerts Lauri doesn’t go there that often.. “ I am someone, who gets elated
quickly. Sometimes it is enought to see a concert that I can’t sleep at night.
I jump into the role of the actors on the stage and think for a long time about
their show. What I could do better and what I could do like them.”, the
30-years vocalist is laughing. “Sometimes it is enough to see a movie to think
the whole night about it.”
1994 the
quartet started as Rasmus, without The, with a concert on a christmas party of
their school. It didn’t took a long time until Lauri wanted to leave this
school before the right time. “So far I didn’t regret it, but I’d like to study
Architecture, but I can’t because I don’t have any classification.”, he
deplores. “If I’d have one year free from work I’d like to be concerned with
building up houses.” In the 90’sYlönen had better things to do, The Rasmus
released 2 albums in Finland and the first Best Of-CD as well. Already their
debut album “Peep” (1996) had been in the charts abroad. “Ago we played a cover
of ‘Ghostbusters’ at our gigs. After this we were invited for the first time to
big festivals. Because ‘Ghostbusters’ worked that good on concerts we went into
the studio and recorded it and with this we had our first national hit.”
But this
was just the foretaste to “In The Shadows” from their bestseller-album “Dread
Letters” (2003), which was sold 1,5 million times. “After this we began to
work, we were touring in 60 countries. I have been the whole time on adrenalin,
on the secons-guess it feels like I have been awake for 2 years. After it I had
to sleep for one year, maybe this is the reason why the album after it “Hide
From The Sun” had such a different character.”
Nowadays it
is time for a new balance in between, which wears the title “Best Of 2001 –
2009”. The round dance of their hits already starts with their evergreen and
their personal mark “In The Shadows”. A brand new ballad is available as well.
“October & April” is a duet with Annette Olzon, the front woman of
Nightwish. “We haven’t had the chance to do another Mega-Hit, but I believe in
our second chance.”, Lauri hopes. “Our idols are Green Day, they are now bigger
than ever.”
